CAN BEARDED DRAGONS EAT WAX WORMS?

Bearded dragons can eat wax worms and generally really enjoy doing so. They have soft bodies and are smaller in size which makes it easier for them to consume and digest. However, wax worms are higher in fat, lower in protein, and don’t have much calcium and phosphorus ratio than most of the other common feeder insects. Therefore, they should solely be fed in limited servings and in good restrictions. Otherwise, health complications could occur and your dragon could get harmed.

Wax worms for bearded dragons, butterworms and superworms are the best worms for bearded dragons and these are the most preferred by them. But, in all these, only wax worms are the closest to their heart. Wax worms have a lot of advantages despite the fact that they can’t be fed regularly.

HOW MANY WAX WORMS SHOULD I FEED MY BEARDED DRAGON?

The diet of your bearded dragon should be according to their size and age. Baby dragons require more proteins, whereas larger ones require more insects. Baby dragons eat smaller meals at a time but prefer eating more than adults. Bearded dragons under one year of age should have a diet of 70% insects and 30% plants. Keeping these factors in mind, it is clear that baby dragons eat more insects on a regular basis. 3 to 5 wax worms on a daily basis are ideal for dragons.

Whereas, for adult bearded dragons, 3-5 wax worms given less frequently would be a great option. You can feed them with wax worms every three days. They can consume them during their daytime meals. Remember, that it has been stated that dragons need high proteins and lower fats in their diet. So, ensure that you provide them food that meets their requirements.
